Summary

The African Regional Session of the annual will take place in-person on 15 April at UN Headquarters under the theme “Turning the Tide: Transformative and Coordinated SDG Action.”

The session aims to accelerate progress toward achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union Agenda 2063, recognising that Africa is currently off-track on several SDGs.

It is expected that the session will deepen policy discussions among Africa’s youth, the United Nations System, Member States, African Regional Institutions, policy and decision-makers. It will also emphasise the need for transformative, coordinated approaches rather than fragmented efforts.

Organised by the UN Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA), in partnership with the African Union Commission and the Pan-African Youth Union, the Africa session is part of the ECOSOC Youth Forum scheduled from 14 to 16 April 2026 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Forum provides a platform for young people to engage in dialogue with Member States and other stakeholders to share their views and concerns, and to galvanise action and recommendations to transform the world into a fairer, greener, and more sustainable place, in line with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The ECOSOC Youth Forum will be guided by the 2026 theme of ECOSOC and the High-level Political Forum (HLPF): Innovate, Unite and Transform: Youth Shaping the Road to 2030.
