EW4All Webinar on Early Warning & Early Action in African LDCs in Conflict and Post-Conflict Situations

Thursday, 16 April 2026 - 8:00am to 9:00am

Across Africa, disasters are increasing in frequency and intensity, yet critical gaps in multi-hazard early warning systems (MHEWS) persist. These challenges are particularly acute in least developed countries (LDCs) affected by active conflict and insecurity, high levels of displacement, or the complex demands of post-conflict recovery and reconstruction.

To make MHEWS effective, it must be people-centred and inclusive, designed to function amid insecurity, and responsive to the needs of displaced and crisis-affected populations. This also requires stronger links across humanitarian, development, and climate actors, alongside financing that can reach the areas and communities where needs are most urgent.

This webinar presented the results of a workshop held in December 2025 on Early Warning and Early Action in African LDCs in Conflict and Post-conflict Situations.

The webinar aimed at:

  • Highlighting key challenges and lessons learned in implementing early warning systems in conflict and post-conflict settings in African LDCs;
  • Discussing practical and scalable solutions identified through the workshop and reflected in the outcome document; and
  • Identifying ways to advance priority actions and financing pathways to expand and strengthen MHEWS in conflict and post-conflict settings.
