Secretary General's message - 2026
On World Post Day, we celebrate a system that does so much more than deliver the mail. With over 660,000 offices and 4.6 million staff, the post connects communities and provides essential services that strive to leave no one behind.
This year’s theme – “One postal network, infinite possibilities” – reflects the role of the postal system as a one-stop shop for services that enable people to participate in the economy and society.
Whether it’s a young person opening their first digital bank account, a family accessing virtual healthcare, a small business owner reaching global markets, or an elderly neighbour who needs someone to check in, the postal network acts as a trusted facilitator.
Crucially, these services are often delivered in person, providing a real, human touchpoint in our increasingly digital world.
The postal system is one of the oldest examples of multilateralism in action, with global cooperation ensuring messages, goods and services arrive even amid disasters and emergencies. Today, let’s honour postal workers and the Universal Postal Union – and all they do to connect our world
