In addition, operational challenges and needs were discussed, especially in relation to\u00a0HC\u00a0partner\u2019s emerging challenges such as ability to sustain their services.\u00a0 A presentation\u00a0on the outcome of the\u00a0recent Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) workshop, highlighting vulnerable persons and needs was also shared.<\/li>\n<li>Local authorities have\u00a0introduced\u00a0stricter lockdown measures on\u00a0selected\u00a0COVID-19 hotspot\u00a0locations\u00a0in the Gaza and North Governorates (at the north end of the Strip)\u00a0with no movement except for emergency\u00a0purposes until\u00a0further notice. Further\u00a0in the\u00a0south,\u00a0in\u00a0the Middle,\u00a0Khanyonis\u00a0and Rafah governorates,\u00a0movement\u00a0is allowed\u00a0from\u00a00:800\u00a0\u201320:00\u00a0and between\u00a0governorates until\u00a04\u00a0September\u00a0at 22:30<\/li>\n<li>COVID-19 testing of health workers, in-patients, contacts and suspected cases continues in the Gaza strip.\u00a0A total of\u00a07,351\u00a0tests\u00a0have been\u00a0conducted\u00a0since August 24.\u00a0People\u00a0who have been in contact with positive COVID-19 cases\u00a0are urged\u00a0to\u00a0self-identify\u00a0and self-quarantine at home\u00a0and maintain infection prevention control measures, in order\u00a0to\u00a0facilitate tracing and\u00a0stop further transmission<\/li>\n<li>Public primary healthcare service delivery\u00a0is\u00a0limited to 26 out of 49 Primary Health Centers (PHC) distributed across the five governorates\u00a0of the Gaza Strip,\u00a0which\u00a0are\u00a0be providing essential services only.\u00a0MOH has suspended work at outpatient clinics, non-emergency surgeries and stopped visits to inpatients in all hospitals. Citizens are being urged to adhere to the instructions of infection prevention and control, and physical distancing<\/li>\n<li>In the West\u00a0Bank,\u00a0\u00a0the\u00a0Palestinian\u00a0Authority\u2019s\u00a0Council\u00a0of Ministers announced a staggered introduction to the school year, beginning on September 6.\u00a0School starts for students from grades one, and the rest of the classes are\u00a0to be\u00a0enrolled in school within two weeks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Surveillance\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li>The WHO risk assessment remains very high for the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt)<\/li>\n<li>The number of people testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 continues to\u00a0rise<\/li>\n<li>The total number of cases is\u202f31,929\u00a0including\u00a031,348\u00a0cases\u00a0in the West Bank\u00a0and\u202f581\u202fin the Gaza Strip<\/li>\n<li>In the month of August,\u00a0the number of COVID-19\u00a0cases increased by 50 per cent\u00a0(or\u00a016,101\u00a0cases), averaging\u00a0519\u00a0cases per day. The highest\u00a0daily total for\u00a0number of cases confirmed for\u00a0oPt\u00a0was\u00a0recorded\u00a0on 31 August at 875<\/li>\n<li>Most cases recorded are from Hebron (13,552), East Jerusalem (7,458),\u00a0Jerusalem (2,378), Ramallah (2,303),\u00a0Bethlehem (1,604),\u00a0Nablus (1,332),\u00a0Qalqilya (924), Jenin (299) Tulkarm (386),\u00a0Salfit\u00a0(105)\u00a0and Tubas (85).<\/li>\n<li>A total of\u00a0400\u00a0health workers are among those confirmed cases<\/li>\n<li>In the West Bank,\u00a028 patients\u00a0are\u00a0in a serious condition (ICU), with five requiring mechanical ventilation (as of 2 September, 14:00).<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip,\u00a0the total number of confirmed cases is\u00a0581, including\u00a0500\u00a0active cases, five deaths and 76 recovered.\u00a0Out of the active cases, 20 are in a moderate to severe condition, including three patients receiving care in intensive care units (ICU).\u00a0A total of 70\u00a0health workers\u00a0are among those\u00a0cases<\/li>\n<li>To-date, the\u00a0Ministry of\u00a0Health (MoH) reported a total of\u00a021,670\u00a0cases have\u00a0recovered:\u00a021,594\u00a0in\u00a0the West Bank (including\u00a05,575\u00a0in East Jerusalem)\u00a0and\u00a076\u00a0in Gaza.\u00a0One hundred and\u00a0eighty-nine\u00a0people\u00a0have died,\u00a0with\u00a0an\u00a0overall case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.59%<\/li>\n<li>More\u00a0than half (53%) of all confirmed cases are\u00a0female (10,923\u00a0cases) and about\u00a0half\u00a0of\u00a0all cases (15,028\u00a0cases) are below the age of 50 years in the oPt, excluding East Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Laboratory diagnostics\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li>A total of\u00a0301,836\u00a0laboratory samples have been tested for COVID-19 according to the\u202fMoH<\/li>\n<li>Today, WHO delivered 50 testing kits to screen 4,900 people for COVID-19 and 4,000 swabs for COVID-19 testing to local health authorities in the Gaza Strip\u00a0(see image). This delivery is critical to support the scale up of testing to help contain the outbreak of COVID-19 within the community.
