delivered 46,000 items of essential personal protective equipment and antiseptics to the\u00a0MoH\u00a0in Ramallah to protect frontline health workers from COVID-19, funded by\u00a0oPt humanitarian Fund the Government of\u00a0Kuwait.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>WHO Preparedness, readiness and response<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>WHO is continuing to work with partners to support Ministry of Health\u2019s (MoH) efforts to respond to the COVID-19 situation in the occupied Palestinian Territory (oPt).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Surveillance<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The total number of cases in oPt is 507, including 490 cases in the West Bank and 17 in the Gaza Strip. In the West Bank, most cases are from East Jerusalem (163), Jerusalem Governorate (140), followed by Ramallah (68), Bethlehem (59) and Hebron (41). In the Gaza Strip, all confirmed cases are from Gaza City. A total of 4,615 samples have been tested, including some outside of Gaza<\/li>\n<li>WHO delivered lab testing kits to support COVID-19 testing of more than 1,100 people in the Gaza Strip (on April 30), with thanks to support from UK aid<\/li>\n<li>\u200bWith a global and local shortage of lab supplies and other medical equipment, large quantities of essential items are challenging to procure but WHO is working to try and address this to support oPt\u2019s COVID-19 response.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><em>WHO delivered lab testing kits to support COVID-19 testing of more than 1,100 people in the Gaza Strip (on April 30), with thanks to support from UK aid\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column x_wide\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload x_gnd-corner-image x_gnd-corner-image-center x_gnd-corner-image-bottom\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/outlook.office.com\/actions\/ei?u=http%3A%2F%2Fi6.cmail20.com%2Fei%2Fj%2F03%2F40D%2FE70%2F000451%2Fcsfinal%2FIMG_9015-fcd88baf3b4ad3e8.JPG&amp;d=2020-04-30T14%3A18%3A21.083Z\" alt=\"\" width=\"345\" data-imagetype=\"External\" data-connectorsauthtoken=\"1\" data-imageproxyendpoint=\"\/actions\/ei\" data-imageproxyid=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Isolation and Case Management and Operations support and logistics<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<ul>\n<li>According to the MoH, more than 13,034\u00a0Palestinians are in quarantine (home or facility-based) for monitoring of their symptoms and ensuring early detection of cases<\/li>\n<li>During the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Palestinian Authority has imposed daily movement restrictions from 19.00 until early in the morning<\/li>\n<li>WHO delivered the following 46,000 items of essential personal protective equipment (PPE) and antiseptics to the Ministry of Health in Ramallah to help protect frontline health workers from COVID-19:\u00a020,000\u00a0surgical masks;\u00a08,000 N95 masks;\u00a03,000 reusable face shields;\u00a02,000 protective goggles;\u00a05,000\u00a0full body gowns;\u00a0and\u00a08,000 bottles of alcogel.\u00a0The delivery was made possible through the oPt humanitarian Fund and the Government of Kuwait<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip,\u00a012\u00a0people have recovered from COVID-19, out of which 9 were discharged\u00a0home\u00a0and\u00a0three\u00a0were\u00a0moved to quarantine facilities at Rafah crossing.\u00a0Five\u00a0confirmed cases remain in isolation at Rafah crossing field hospital<\/li>\n<li>More than 1,940\u00a0people are in one of the 21 operational\u00a0quarantine facilities which include designated primary health facilities, schools or hotels<\/li>\n<li>Despite the low number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Gaza Strip, WHO is encouraging people in Gaza to maintain the recommended measures to keep families safe from COVID-19 and to prevent its spread including physical distancing and personal hygiene measures<\/li>\n<li>WHO and UNICEF continue to scale up procurement efforts to mobilize life-saving essential Intensive Care Unit and ventilator equipment through global supply mechanisms. \u202fMore essential supplies are on the way for West Bank and Gaza, with thanks to support from multiple donors including the oPt Humanitarian Fund\u202f.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>East Jerusalem<\/strong>\u200b<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<ul>\n<li>As of 29 April 2020 (17:30), the Palestinian Authority\u2019s Ministry of Health reported 163 COVID-19 cases in East Jerusalem with five new cases from Shufat, Issawiya, Beit Safa and Al-Tur. Two deaths have been reported (CFR- 3.1%) and 27 recovered in the same period.<\/li>\n<li>COVID-19 patients from East Jerusalem continue to be managed by the East Jerusalem Hospital Network (EJHN) and Israeli Hospitals. There are currently six patients with COVID-19 (three at St Joseph Hospital, three in need for kidney dialysis at Hadassah Hospital) and eight confirmed health worker cases of COVID-19 \u00a0from the same hospital all under quarantine<\/li>\n<li>Despite donor pledges, the EJHN hospitals are still in urgent need of medical supplies and equipment to be fully prepared to receive COVID-19 patients.
