SUBCOMMITTEE I CONTINUES CONSIDERATION OF BOUNDARY QUESTIONS<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Reconvening this evening at 7:15 p.m. at Lake Success, Subcommittee of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Palestinian Question continued discussion of the revised report of the Working Group on boundaries.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Subcommittee first took up the question of Western Galilee which the <\/span>UNSCOP partition plan<\/a> would place in the proposed Arab State. The Jewish Agency claims part of this region for the Jewish State.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Subcommittee agreed to recommend the allocation of a small part of Western Galilee in the Safad area, comprising three villages with a total population of 1,400 Arabs, to the proposed Jewish State.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Subcommittee team took up the question of the territory of the city of Jerusalem. The <\/span>UNSCOP Partition Plan <\/a>would, include in this territory the whole city of Jerusalem together with Bethlehem and a belt of surrounding land.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Jewish Agency asks that the northern part of Jewish-inhabited Jerusalem be set up as an enclave.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Delegates of the USA, Canada and South Africa expressed their preference for the <\/span>UNSCOP majority plan<\/a>, while the Polish delegate indicated support for the Jewish request.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Subcommittee adjourned without reaching a decision on the question and will reconvene tomorrow, Friday, at 3:00 p.m. at Flushing Meadow.<\/p><\/div>\n
