1. Future activities of the Commission and its move to Jerusalem<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The CHAIRMAN said that the Commission had decided in principle to stop work in Geneva on or about 15 July and leave for Jerusalem, but that, as previously agreed, a definite decision on that subject would not be taken until the next meeting.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

2. Press Release<\/u> <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The CHAIRMAN considered that the final touches should be put to the text of the Press Release to be issued as soon as the Commission had taken a definite decision in regard to its departure for Jerusalem.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The PRINCIPAL SECRETARY stated that Mr. Fisher, the Commission’s Press Attaché at Jerusalem, when shown the draft press release prepared by the Secretariat, had remarked that a press release referring to each an important phase of the Commission’s work should be given a more journalistic turn.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

He asked Mr. Ladas (Secretariat) to read the draft press release drawn up by Mr. Fisher.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

On the CHAIRMAN’s suggestion, the Commission asked the Secretariat to prepare an amalgamation of the two texts for subsequent consideration by the General Committee.<\/p><\/div>\n

3. Letters to the Arab and Israeli Governments informing them of the Commission’s decisions with regard to its future activities<\/u>.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Commission approved the text of letters to be sent to the Arab and Israeli Governments informing them of the Commission’s decisions with regard to its future activities.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

4. Blocked accounts: Appointment of a Trustee and the reply of the Bank for International Settlements<\/u>.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The PRINCIPAL SECRETARY drew attention to the fact that the Commission had decided that the negative reply sent to the Commission’s Economic Adviser by the Bank for international Settlements, which had been approached to act as the trustee with whom the Palestinian pounds intended to cover payments to Arab refugees should be deposited, did not constitute an official document of which note could be taken.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

He went on to say that, in reply to a letter which he had himself addressed to the Director of the Bank for International Settlements on behalf of the Commission: he had received a letter confirming the terms of the Bank’s unofficial reply. He considered that the Commission might take note of that letter.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

It was so decided.<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Furthermore, he felt that, as the Commission was nearing the end of a definite stage in its work, the time had come to take stocks. He therefore proposed to draft a comparatively brief note outlining the situation for the benefit of the members of the Commission, so that before its next meeting at Jerusalem; the Commission might form a clear idea of the position and be able to make its decisions accordingly.<\/p><\/div>\n
