The CHAIRMAN welcomed the members of the Hashemite Jordan delegation in the name of the Commission. The delegation was already familiar with the work of the Commission and of the Jerusalem Committee. He hoped that the Lausanne meetings might produce full discussions of all questions still outstanding between the two parties and might constitute a further progress in the Middle East. The Commission would hold itself at the disposal of the Jordan delegation at all times; the delegation would be free to carry on exchanges of views with the Israeli delegation either directly or through the Commission.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

FAWZI PASHA MULKI expressed the thanks of his delegation for the Commission’s welcome. His delegation had come to Lausanne in a spirit of cooperation and good will he assured the Chairman that he and his colleagues would not be found lacking in understanding. It was their sincere desire that the Lausanne talks should be fruitful and should lead to a successful solution of the Palestine problem as a whole.<\/p><\/div>\n

The CHAIRMAN expressed his appreciation of the attitude of the Jordan delegation. The delegation of Israel had given the same assurances to the Commission that it desired to achieve a peace settlement while in Lausanne and would work toward that end either directly or through the Commission. He hoped that in the course of future meetings the members of the Jordan delegation would open their minds freely to the Commission; he gave his assurance that their confidence would not be abused.<\/p><\/div>\n

FAWZI PASHA MULKI recalled that his Government had always maintained the most cordial relations with the Commission. His delegation would study with the greatest interest all proposals made to it with a view to arriving at a satisfactory solution.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
