The CHAIRMAN welcomed the Israeli representatives and inquired whether they were prepared to present a reply from their Government to the Commission’s note of 12 September, in which it had been requested that the delegations should, upon arrival in New York, either revise their territorial proposals or present new ones.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Mr. LOURIE regretted that he could not present such a reply at the present meeting, as he had hoped to do. A draft letter had been received from his Government, which was at present being revised; he hoped to be able to submit it to the Commission within a few days, He understood that the reply would be submitted in writing, and expressed his appreciation of the CHAIRMAN’s invitation to his delegation to comment verbally upon it if desired.<\/p><\/div>\n

The CHAIRMAN then recalled that the Commission had presented to the Israeli delegation in Lausanne on 2 September a <\/span>draft Declaration<\/a> concerning protection of the Holy Places outside the Jerusalem area, with a request for guarantees from the Israeli Government. He asked the Israeli delegation to recall that <\/span>Declaration<\/a> to the attention of its Government so that the Commission might be in a position to report to the General Assembly on the matter.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

Mr. LOURIE replied that he had no instructions regarding the <\/span>Declaration<\/a>, but that he would contact his Government at once and hoped for an early reply,<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n
