Note on the 329th meeting held at Headquarters on <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Friday, 8 July 1955, at 3 p.m.<\/p><\/div>\n

On 8 July 1955, the members of the United Nations Conciliation Commission for Palestine held an informal meeting with the Secretary-General. No summary records were made. Present were, besides the Secretary-General, the Chairman, Mr. Barco (United States), Mr. Ordonneau (France) and Mr. Asiroglou (Turkey) and the Acting Principal Secretary, Mr. Bang-Jensen.<\/p><\/div>\n

At the beginning of the meeting the Chairman reviewed the accelerated programme for identification and evaluation of Arab immovable property and stated that his Government in principle was favourable to this.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Secretary-General supported the project strongly and expressed the view that it was of so important a nature that budgetary considerations in this case should not have any significant influence in the decision whether to start the project or not. In response to inquiries of the members, the Secretary-General stated that the additional costs foreseen for the accelerated programme would not necessitate a net increase in the United Nations overall present budget. He said that he is prepared to assume responsibility for making the necessary future budgetary recommendations.<\/p><\/div>\n

The three members of the Commission stated that they had presented the project to their respective Governments and that they expected to obtain an affirmative reply from their Governments shortly.*<\/p><\/div>\n

* On 18 July 1955, the Chairman of the Commission informed the Acting Principal Secretary that all three Governments had now agreed to the accelerated programme<\/p><\/div>\n
