<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a>1. ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

The CHAIRMAN welcomed Mr. Derinsu and asked him to convey to Mr. Baran the Commission’s appreciation of the services rendered by him during his period as Turkish representative on the Commission.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The agenda was adopted.<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

2. THE QUESTION OF BLOCKED ACCOUNTS (WORKING PAPER DATED 10 SEPTEMBER)<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The CHAIRMAN drew attention to the working paper prepared by the Secretariat, which suggested procedures which might be followed after the first instalment in the release of blocked accounts had been completed. He thought that the two alternative courses proposed in the paper could be considered as parts of a single approach. The Commission favoured liquidation of the entire amount, but if such a course proved impossible or unworkable it could then press for a second instalment. The Chairman suggested that the paper be referred by the Members to their respective Governments. Once agreement in principle had been reached, the Commission could then plan its approach and fix a date for a meeting with the delegation of Israel, possibly in two weeks time.<\/p><\/div>\n

It was so agreed.<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

3. DRAFT PLAN OF WORK OF THE COMMISSION FOR 1954 (WORKING PAPER DATED 11 SEPTEMBER)<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The CHAIRMAN said that he, personally; was in full agreement with .the paper but would seek the views of his Government. He suggested that the other members mlght wish to do the same.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Mr. CHAI (Acting Principal Secretary) explained that there was no particular hurry in approving the plan as the Advisory Committee would not meet until October. The purpose of the paper was to set forth the budgetary implications of a possible speed-up in the evaluation project which would require a slightly higher allocation of funds. Mr.Chai added in this connexion that the setting up of a sub-office in Jerusalem, to process the further material needed, would represent a considerable saving in time and money.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Mr. DERINSU (Turkey) considered that the idea of a sub-office was an extremely practical one.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

4. <\/span>THIRTEENTH PROGRESS REPORT<\/a> TO THE SECRETARY-GENERAL<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The CHAIRMAN recalled earlier discussions in the Commission as to the proper time for releasing the<\/span> report<\/a> and felt that this could be done as soon as final data on the first instalment had been received from Mr. Gaillard. He agreed that some mention of the <\/span>Commission’s letter<\/a> to the Secretary-General on the Jerusalem question should be made, as well as a mention of the Arab property issue.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

It was so agreed.<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

5. QUESTION RAISED BY THE DELAY OF THE GOVERNMENT OF ISRAEL IN REPLYING TO THE <\/span>COMMISSION’S LETTER OF 29 JULY 1953<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

It was <\/span>agreed<\/i><\/span> that the members of the Commission individually would remind the delegation of Israel that the Commission was still awaiting replies to the questions raised in its<\/span> letter of 29 July<\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n
