\t<\/span>The Chairman of the Security Council Truce Commission instructs me to transmit the following message to you:<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>"Jerusalem 23 May<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>Rabbis Winzderg and Hazan of the Old City ask me to transmit the following message to you:<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>The population of the Jewish quarter of the Old City faces the danger of complete massacre.  On behalf of the population we address a desperate appeal to you.  The rolls of Torahs of eight synagogues have been burnt.  How much longer will the civilized world tolerate this kind of vandalism.  I beg you to make every effort and act in the most effective manner to put a stop to it.  Population patiently awaits your intervention aimed at effecting an immediate cease fire.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>I may personally add for your information that since five this morning the Jewish quarter of the Old City is being hammered by Arab artillery and mortar fire.<\/p><\/div>\n
