1. The Commission's visit to Ankara <\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The CHAIRMAN recalled that, in agreement with the Turkish Government, the Commission had fixed 4 and 5 September as the dates for its visit to Ankara. He requested the Principal Secretary to inform the Commission of the arrangements made for the journey.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The PRINCIPAL SECRETARY stated that the Commission would leave Jerusalem on Monday, 4 September by United Nations aircraft and would spend 4 and 5 September at Ankara, where it would visit the Prime Minister and the Minister for Foreign Affairs. It would leave Ankara on 6 September for Istanbul, where it would be received by the President of the Turkish Republic.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Consequently the Commission could suspend its work in the Middle East on that date and fix the date for the resumption of its work at Lake Success.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The CHAIRMAN stated that he was awaiting various communications from Washington which would enable him to propose a date for the resumption of the Commission’s work at Lake Success.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

After an exchange of views during which Mr. ARAS (Turkey). And Mr. de BOISANGER (France) made various proposals regarding the date for the resumption of work at Lake Success, it was decided<\/i> to fix 2 October as the provisional date for the Commission’s first meeting at Lake Success.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The PRINCIPAL SECRETARY stated that the Secretariat could stay at Jerusalem until 16 or 17 September in order to wind up the work in progress, and could be at Lake Success on 28 September.<\/p><\/div>\n

It was so decided<\/i>.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

2. The Commission's General Report to the Secretary-General of the United Nations<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The CHAIRMAN submitted for the Commission’s approval the draft General Report to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, which had been considered and completed by the General Committee.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The PRINCIPAL SECRETARY drew the Commission’s attention to two points, relating-respectively to paragraphs 5 and 10 of Chapter A, for decision by the Commission.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

After an exchange of views the Commission decided<\/i>, to delete the last sentence of paragraph 5 and to retain the first sentence of paragraph 10.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

A discussion ensued on the question whether the passage dealing with compensation should be expanded, and whether it would also be advisable to insert a few additional, paragraphs making brief mention of the Commission’s interviews with the various governments during its stay in the Middle East. As a result of this exchange of views it was decided<\/i> to draft the required matter, which would be considered by the Commission at its next meeting.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Commission then considered the draft of the Introduction to the Report, and decided<\/i> to request the Secretariat to shorten certain parts of the Introduction. aid to condense it.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The meeting rose at 12 00 noon.<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n
