<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a>MEETING WITH THE RELIEF AND WORKS AGENCY<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

The PRINCIPAL SECRETARY informed the Commission that he had discussed the possibility of a meeting between the Commission and the Relief and Works Agency with the Director of the Agency. Mr. Blandford had told him that the Agency had completed its report and was quite prepared to meet the Commission for an exchange of views.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The CHAIRMAN said that the question of compensation should be raised in the course of any exchange of views with the Relief and Works Agency. In his opinion, the responsibility for proposing that negotiations be opened with a view to settling the question of compensation lay henceforth with the Government of Israel, and all that was necessary was to decide in advance to which body Israel would be referred in the event of its showing a desire to settle the question.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

He then reported the conversation he had had with General Riley, from which he had gained the impression that in the event of the parties to the Palestinian dispute showing willingness to enter into negotiations with a view to modifying the armistice agreements, the present terms of reference of the Chief of Staff of the Truce Supervision Organization would allow of such negotiations being held under his auspices. In any case, there appeared to be no need to arrange an official meeting between the Commission and General Riley.<\/p><\/div>\n

ADOPTION OF THE <\/span>REPORT OF THE COMMISSION TO THE SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The CHAIRMAN presented the final text of the draft <\/span>report to the Secretary-General of the United Nations<\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The PRINCIPAL SECRETARY said that in pursuance of the Commission’s decision at its last meeting, the Secretariat had annexed to the report: (1) the summary of the real-estate expert’s evaluation of movable and immovable Arab property abandoned in Israel; (2) the <\/span>letter<\/a> sent to the parties to the dispute by the Commission on 6 October 1951, together with the text of the statement made by the Arab States and the text of the <\/span>draft non-aggression pact<\/a> proposed by the delegation of Israel; (3) the <\/span>Commission’s letter<\/a> informing the delegations of the closure of the Conference, together with the summary records of the Commission’s meetings with the delegation of Israel and with the delegations of the Arab States.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Mr. MARCHAL (France) and Mr. ARAB (Turkey) each proposed minor drafting amendments, which were approved without discussion.<\/p><\/div>\n

The draft report of the Commission to the Secretary-General of the United Nations was adopted<\/i>.<\/p><\/div>\n
