\nMain Findings:<\/strong> <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

In the wake of the Gaza Crisis, the Consolidated Appeal for the occupied Palestinian territory has been increased by US$ 68 million: from US$ 462 million to US$ 530 million. A Gaza Flash Appeal is currently being coordinated by OCHA, and will be officially launched on 2 February 2009. The projects highlighted in the Gaza Flash Appeal should not prejudice funding for the annual humanitarian programming as presented in the 2009 Consolidated Appeal <\/p><\/div>\n

Saudi Arabia has pledged US$1 billion for the reconstruction of Gaza, and Qatar has pledged US$ 250 million. The UAE and Bahrain held telethon fund-raisers, raising US$ 84 million and US$ 8.9 respectively. How the above money will be allocated has not been finalised at the time of publication. Kuwait has pledged US$ 34 million against UNRWA's emergency appeal <\/p><\/div>\n

The Food Sector received 52% of all funding to all projects in the MENACA region in 2008. Projects relating to Mine Action received no funding <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

In 2008, countries in the MENACA region gave over US$ 1 billion in aid around the world <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) provided over US$ 64 million (15% of total CERF grants) in rapid response grants and to under-funded emergencies in the MENACA region <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

In 2008, the Kyrgyzstan Flash Appeal and Syria's Drought Appeal were the least funded, receiving just 12% (US$ 2.4 million) and 15% (US$ 3 million) of the requested amounts respectively. The majority of funding for both appeals came from the CERF (72% and 64%) <\/p><\/div>\n
