Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Hedi Annabi briefed members on the Secretary-General&#8217;s latest<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/Docs\/sc\/reports\/2002\/sgrep02.htm\" style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\"><\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unispal.un.org\/pdfs\/E7190EDBC71B994485256C91006D3F26.pdf\" style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">report<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">.&nbsp;&nbsp;The new UN military advisor Maj. Gen. Patrick Cammaert <\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">was introduce at the meeting. <br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">Council members then went into consultations today on UNDOF with a view to a formal meeting to extend that mission&#39;s mandate by six months.\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">At 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, the Secretary-General&#8217;s Special Representative for Angola Ibrahim Gambari will brief the Council on the latest report, first in an open meeting and then in consultations. \n<\/li>\n<li style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">Cyprus, which had been scheduled for this morning, has been moved to Wednesday afternoon. \n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:left;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">Monday afternoon, Terje Roed Larsen, The UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/News\/Press\/docs\/2002\/sc7603.doc.htm\" style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\"><u>briefed<\/u><\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">&nbsp;the Council in an open meeting on the situation in the Middle East. Amid a growing consensus on the need for a two-State solution to the Middle East conflict, bloodshed and economic collapse are intensifying in the region, Larsen said. He urged the international efforts to reconcile plans with reality. Larsen also noted that the roadmap for peace outlined by the diplomatic Quartet &#8211; the United Nations, United States, Russian Federation and European Union &#8211; provides the best tool to achieve this goal.
