\n\t\t\t\tPresident Treki stresses the need to establish a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East in accordance with United Nations resolutions<\/u><\/strong>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\tIn a response to questions addressed to him today by journalists, the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Dr. Ali Abdussalam Treki stressed the need to establish a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East in accordance with United Nations resolutions.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\tAnswering another question on the contradiction that exists between the objection of Arab States to General Assembly resolution 181 of 29 November 1947, and their current position in support of the resolutions before the General Assembly on the Question of Palestine and the Situation in the Middle East, President Treki underscored that the situation today cannot be compared to that of 1947. He explained that at the time the Arab population in the historic land of Palestine amounted to more than 80% of the total population. Inspite of this, the British Government at that time abandoned the Palestinian Arabs in favor of the Jewish community implementing the so-called Balfour Declaration. Since then, more than four million Palestinians have been expelled from their homeland, and most remain in refugee camps in neighbouring countries until today. The Occupying Power refuses the return of those Palestinians to their homes and property.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\tPresident Treki further indicated that a just peace can only be realized by establishing a Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\tFurthermore, he emphasized the need to continue on the path of reaching a settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict, in particular the Question of Palestine, leading to a just and lasting peace in the region.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\tDans une réponse aux questions posées aujourd'hui par les journalistes, le Président de l'Assemblée générale, SE Dr Ali Abdussalam Treki a souligné la nécessité d'établir une paix juste, globale et durable au Moyen-Orient, conformément aux résolutions des Nations Unies.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\tRépondant à une autre question sur la contradiction qui existe entre l'opposition des États arabes à la résolution 181 du 29 Novembre 1947, ainsi que leur position actuelle à l'appui des résolutions soumises à l'Assemblée générale sur la question de la Palestine et la Situation au Moyen-Orient, le Président Treki a affirmé que la situation d'aujourd'hui ne peut être comparée à celle de 1947. Il a expliqué qu'à l'époque, la population arabe dans la terre historique de Palestine s’élevait à plus de 80% de la population totale. En dépit de cela, le Gouvernement britannique à cette époque a abandonné les Arabes Palestiniens en faveur de la communauté juive, en exécution de ce que l'on appelle la Déclaration de Balfour. Depuis lors, plus de quatre millions de Palestiniens ont été expulsés de leur patrie, et la plupart se retrouvent aujourd'hui dans les camps de réfugiés dans les pays voisins. La Puissance Occupante refuse le retour des Palestiniens dans leurs foyers et leurs biens.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\tLe Président Treki a en outre indiqué qu'une paix juste ne peut être réalisée que par l'établissement d'un État palestinien avec Jérusalem-Est comme capitale.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
