International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People,<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Vienna International Centre<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

The Special Meeting commenced at 4 p.m. in Board Room A, in the M Building.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Mr. David Dadge, Secretary of the meeting, introduced the Chairman, Mr. Manuel Santiago FERNANDEZ RONDON, Charge d'affaires Permanent Mission of Cuba, nominated by the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People as its Representative.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Following the opening of the meeting by the Chairman and Charge d'affaires Permanent Mission of Cuba which, included the observance of a minute of silence in honour of all those who gave  their lives for the Palestinian cause, Mr. Sandeep CHAWLA, Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime on behalf of the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna delivered the Secretary -General’s statement.<\/p><\/div>\n

Dr. Friedrich Stift, Director of the Near and Middle East Department in the Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria, then read the address on behalf of the Host Country.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

In continuation, H.E. Mr. Khaled Abdelrahman SHAMAA, Permanent Representative of Arab Republic of Egypt, and Representative of the Chairman of NAM to the  United Nations (Vienna) read the statement prepared by the Chairman of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries.<\/p><\/div>\n

Dr. Hans KÖCHLER, President, International Progress Organization, then spoke, representing the Non-Governmental Organizations on the Question of Palestine.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

This was followed by a statement  by His Excellency Dr. Mikhail Wehbe, Permanent Observer of the League of Arab States.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Mr. Murat SMAGULOV, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations (Vienna),  spoke on behalf of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization, of Islamic Cooperation.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

His Excellency Mr. Zuheir El Wazer, Permanent Observer of Palestine read the statement of Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and President of the Palestinian Authority.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Concluding remarks were addressed by the Chairman.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Representatives from more than 32 Member States and Permanent Observer entities, as well as officials from the Host Country, NGOs, other invited guests and staff members attended the meeting, all in all approximately 128 participants.  <\/p><\/div>\n
