The G8 represents a group of nations with a broad range of global interests and with a collective responsibility and opportunity to use its influence to address some of the most pressing issues in the world.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;color:#2f2f2f;padding-bottom:4px;text-align:left;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Foreign Ministers addressed a number of international issues, challenges and opportunities that impact on global peace, security and prosperity. Beyond exchanging views and coordinating actions on the pressing foreign policy issues of the day, they made a number of commitments as set out below and in the separate Declaration on the Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflict.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;color:#000000;padding-bottom:4px;text-align:left;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">\/&#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;color:#2f2f2f;padding-bottom:4px;text-align:left;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>Middle East Peace Process (MEPP)<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;color:#2f2f2f;padding-bottom:4px;text-align:left;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">G8 Foreign Ministers confirmed their commitment to a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace in the Middle East. They agreed on the urgent need to make progress on the Middle East Peace Process towards this goal and underscored the need for a major international effort, involving all relevant parties, including the Quartet, to drive the peace process forward.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;color:#2f2f2f;padding-bottom:4px;text-align:left;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">The Ministers welcomed President Obama&#8217;s visit to the region and his statement that peace between Israelis and Palestinians is necessary, just and possible. They urged both sides to show the bold political leadership needed to achieve peace, to take the necessary steps to build trust and to work towards the resumption of negotiations without preconditions.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:4px;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span style=\"color:#2f2f2f;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">The Ministers stressed that a long term solution to this conflict can be achieved only through direct negotiations, taking note of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unispal.un.org\/pdfs\/5B0D91439CED286F852579140072337B.pdf\" style=\"padding-top:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;color:#0000ff;padding-bottom:4px;text-align:left;\">23 September 2011 statement<\/a><span style=\"color:#2f2f2f;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">&nbsp;of the Middle East Quartet. Ministers called on parties to refrain from unilateral actions and to create an atmosphere conducive to peace. They strongly reaffirmed that unilateral actions by either party cannot prejudge the outcome of negotiations.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;color:#2f2f2f;padding-bottom:4px;text-align:left;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Ministers expressed grave concerns about the poor state of the Palestinian economy, and the impact this has on Palestinian state-building efforts.
