SG : Je suis très content d'être ici pour participer à cette réunion. J'ai eu de très bonnes discussions avec plusieurs chefs d'état. Je dois remercier le Président Bouteflika et le peuple algérien de nous avoir reçus si chaleureusement. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

J'ai eu l'occasion de discuter avec le Président Assad de la question du retrait du Liban. Il a reconfirmé sa détermination de retirer ses troupes. Il est en train d'élaborer un calendrier pour le retrait et il va me l'envoyer et nous allons travailler ensemble pour ce retrait des troupes syriennes. <\/p><\/div>\n

J'ai eu l'occasion de discuter avec plusieurs chefs d'état, y compris le Président du Soudan, de la situation au Darfour qui nous préoccupe tous. Là aussi il faut faire du progrès et, avec l'appui de la communauté internationale, on ne doit pas seulement aider sur le plan humanitaire, mais on doit aussi trouver une solution politique a ce problème et tout faire pour sécuriser les gens du Darfour. <\/p><\/div>\n

Q:<\/span> La situation en Palestine? <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

SG:<\/span> J'ai eu l'occasion de voir le Président Abu Mazen lorsque j'étais en Palestine la semaine dernière. La situation est encourageante mais il y énormément à faire. Le Premier Ministre Israélien et le Président Palestinien sont en train de mettre en application l'accord de Sharm el Sheikh et ça c'est absolument essentiel. Et nous membresdu Quartet nous ferons tout pour soutenir les efforts pour la paix. <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

Q:<\/span> Why did you ask for another inquiry into the death of Prime Minister Hariri? <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

We sent in a fact-finding team and they will give me their report tomorrow and I will share it with the Security Council tomorrow, but that is only a fact finding team. Of course we are going to look at their report but often in these cases you are going to want a broader investigation, more than the fact-finding team.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n
