THE COMMITTEE ON THE EXERCISE<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n OF THE INALIENABLE RIGHTS<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE<\/strong> <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n AND<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n THE DIVISION FOR PALESTINIAN RIGHTS<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n PRESS BACKGROUNDER<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n UNITED NATIONS<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n New York, April 2008<\/strong> <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n \n ___________________________________<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n IN BRIEF <\/strong><\/span> <\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n THE COMMITTEE <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n DIVISION FOR PALESTINIAN RIGHTS <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n INTERNATIONAL MEETINGS <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n CIVIL SOCIETY COOPERATION <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SOLIDARITY <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n UNISPAL <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n CONTACT <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n \n <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n IN BRIEF<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n ____________________________________<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People <\/strong><\/span>was established in 1975 by the United Nations General Assembly of the United Nations to recommend a programme designed to enable the Palestinian people to exercise its inalienable rights defined by the General Assembly as the right to <\/strong><\/span>self determination <\/strong><\/span>, <\/strong><\/span>independence<\/strong><\/span> <\/strong><\/span>and <\/strong><\/span>sovereignty<\/strong><\/span> <\/strong><\/span>; and the right of Palestinians to <\/strong><\/span>return to their homes and property<\/strong><\/span>. <\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n The General Assembly mandated the Committee to:<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n In pursuance of its mandate the Committee: <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n The Division for Palestinian Rights was established as the Committee’s secretariat. <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n THE COMMITTEE <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n ____________________________________<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n Background<\/strong><\/span> <\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n In November 1975, by its resolution 3376 the General Assembly established the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. The Committee was given the task of recommending a programme designed to enable the Palestinian people to exercise its inalienable rights. <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n Today, the Committee actively promotes the rights of the Palestinian people by raising awareness of the question of Palestine and mobilizing international support for the Palestinians. The Committee works towards the realization of the inalienable right of the Palestinian People. <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n Membership<\/strong><\/span> <\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n The Committee is comprised of 22 Member States from a variety of regions such as <\/strong><\/span>Asia<\/strong><\/span> <\/strong><\/span>, <\/strong><\/span>Africa<\/strong><\/span> <\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n
