INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SOLIDARITY WITH THE<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

PALESTINIAN PEOPLE TO BE OBSERVED 29 NOVEMBER<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

NEW YORK, 28 November (United Nations Division for Palestinian Rights) — The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will hold a special meeting in observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in the Trusteeship Council Chamber, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, 29 November 2006, as mandated by General Assembly resolution 32\/40 B of 2 December 1977.<\/p><\/div>\n

Invitations to address the annual meeting have been extended to the President of the General Assembly, the Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, a representative of Palestine, the Chairman of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territory, several intergovernmental organizations, and a representative of civil society.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

All Member States and Observers have been invited to attend the special meeting.  United Nations family organizations, intergovernmental and civil society organizations have also been invited to attend.  The proceedings, including the texts of messages of solidarity with the Palestinian people, received in connection with the observance of the Day, will be published in a special bulletin of the Division for Palestinian Rights of the United Nations Secretariat.<\/p><\/div>\n

On the occasion of the observance, the Committee has arranged for the screening of a film entitled “The Colour of Olives” in the Dag Hammarskjöld Library Auditorium, at 1 p.m. on 29 November.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Also, the Committee, in cooperation with the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the United Nations, will present a Palestinian art exhibit entitled “Contextualization:  A Palestinian Narrative.”  The exhibit will be opened at 6 p.m. on 29 November, at the north-east corner of the Public Lobby of the General Assembly Building and will be displayed until 13 December 2006.<\/p><\/div>\n
