Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan,<\/u>
\n on the Death of a senior Palestinian Authority official<\/u><\/strong><\/span> <\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1. <\/span>The Government of Japan is saddened and shocked by the death of a senior Palestinian Authority official, Mr. Ziad Abu Ein who took part in the demonstration in the West Bank on December 10th. Japan expresses its condolences to the family of Mr. Ziad Abu Ein.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

2. <\/span>Japan calls on the Israeli authorities to conduct an urgent and transparent investigation of this incident.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

3. <\/span>Japan strongly hopes that this incident will not lead to the escalation of violence, and once again emphasizes the necessity of continuing efforts among all the parties concerned to ease tensions and to enhance mutual trust for the resumption of the peace negotiation.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n
