General Assembly Adopts 48 Texts <\/strong>in Total as It Takes Action on Reports of Its Second Committee<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

The General Assembly today adopted 43 draft resolutions and 5 draft decisions on a plethora of issues relating to sustainable development, information and communication technologies, and countries in special situations.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Assembly adopted the following texts by recorded vote: …“Permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources” – 164 in favour to 5 against (Canada, Israel, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, United States), with 10 abstentions (Australia, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Honduras, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, South Sudan, Togo, Tonga, Vanuatu).<\/p><\/div>\n

Action on Drafts<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

The Assembly moved on to the Second Committee’s report “Permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources” (document <\/span>A\/70\/480<\/a>), which contained a related draft resolution.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

By a recorded vote, it adopted that text by 164 in favour to 5 against, (Canada, Israel, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, United States), with 10 abstentions (Australia, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Honduras, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, South Sudan, Togo, Tonga, Vanuatu).<\/p><\/div>\n

The representative of Venezuela<\/u>, speaking in explanation of position, said her country had voted in favour of the resolution because it rejected the oppression of the Palestinian people. The Palestinians should be in charge of their own resources and land, she added.<\/p><\/div>\n
