The Executive Board decided, upon the recommendation<\/span>2<\/sup><\/span> <\/span>of the Programme and External Relations Commission, that the debate on this item be adjourned to its 191st session, and that the draft decision contained in document 190 EX\/PX\/DR.6 be annexed to the present decision. <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

The Executive Board, <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1. Having examined<\/u> document 190 EX\/13, <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

2. Recalling<\/u> resolutions and decisions of UNESCO on Jerusalem, as well as the provisions of the four Geneva Conventions (1949) and their additional Protocols, the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict (1954) and its additional Protocols and the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage (1972), <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

3. Affirming<\/u> that nothing in the present decision, which is aimed at the safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of East Jerusalem, shall in any way affect the relevant United Nations resolutions and decisions, in particular the relevant Security Council resolutions on the legal status of Jerusalem, <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

4. Deplores<\/u> the ongoing Israeli practices and the Israeli settlers incursions in East Jerusalem, that dangerously and irreversibly affect the city’s distinctive character, both religious and cultural, historical and demographical, and urges the Israeli Authorities to take the necessary measures to prevent these abuses; <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

5. Affirms<\/u> in this regards that the integrity and authenticity of East Jerusalem must be protected; <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

6. Notes with deep concern<\/u> the absence of progress in the implementation of its previous 185 EX\/Decision 14 concerning this item, and reiterates its request to the Director-General to appoint, as soon as possible, a permanent and eminent expert(s) to be stationed in East Jerusalem to report on a regular basis about all the aspects covering the architectural, educational, cultural and demographical situation in the City of East Jerusalem; <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

7. Reaffirms<\/u> the requirement to promptly and fully implement the above-referenced decision and resolution, and urges the Israeli authorities to facilitate its implementation in conformity with its adherence to UNESCO decisions and conventions; <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

8. Asks<\/u> the Director-General to maintain her efforts to implement the above mentioned decision and resolution; <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

9. Decides<\/u> to include this item on the agenda of the 191st session of the Executive Board and invites the Director-General to submit to it a progress thereon. <\/p><\/div>\n
