Palestinian flag is raised at UNESCO ceremony<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n

The President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, on Tuesday raised the Palestinian flag at the headquarters of the UN cultural agency, UNESCO.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

This is the first time its flag has been raised over a UN body.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Palestine was admitted into UNESCO as a full member in October this year. This despite protests from certain states, including Israel and the US.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The US consequently withdrew substantial funding to the agency.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Mr. Abbas along UNESCO’s Director-General Irina Bokova attended the ceremony in Paris.<\/p><\/div>\n
