GC.11\/Res.2       UNIDO ACTIVITIES IN THE PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t<\/span>The General Conference<\/i>,\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Fully aware <\/i>of the severe economic and social conditions under which the Palestinian people are living in the occupied territories,\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Conscious <\/i>of the significance of the economic growth, in particular after the Israeli disengagement from the Gaza Strip, to the generation of job creation for poverty reduction and promotion of peace and stability,\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Aware <\/i>of the role of the development of the industrial sector in the overall economic growth, and the importance of the UNIDO integrated programme in upgrading Palestinian industries,\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Noting with satisfaction <\/i>the findings of the recent UNIDO independent evaluation report for the UNIDO activities during the period 1999-2005, and the achievements reached in the process of industrial development,\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>Expresses <\/i>its appreciation to Member States and UNIDO for providing the needed funds to carry out the first phase of the programme;<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\n\t<\/span>2.\t<\/span>Emphasizes <\/i>the need to continue implementing in full the second phase of the programme;\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>3.\t<\/span>Emphasizes <\/i>the importance of coordinating such programmes and activities with donors and other relevant development organizations within the United Nations system;\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>4.\t<\/span>Encourages <\/i>Member States to contribute funding to the second phase of the programme;\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>5.\t<\/span>Requests <\/i>the Director-General to keep Member States informed on the achievements in that regard.\n<\/p><\/div>\n
