In support of the 2011 Gaza Summer Games, American Friends of UNRWA (AFU) has partnered with the daily deal website, Groupon, becoming the first organisation supporting Palestinian refugees to be featured on the site. From 24 to 26 May, all $6 donations to this year’s Summer Games will be doubled through the online campaign. The $6 donation will provide a cap, shirt, and pair of athletic shoes to one child for his or her Summer Games experience. That $6 donation will then be doubled to $12 by a generous matching donor, ensuring that two children will be prepared to embark on an exciting summer of fun. UNRWA’s Summer Games is the largest recreational programme in the region, helping 250,000 kids in Gaza play, learn, laugh, make new friends, and just be kids. With nearly 900,000 users on Groupon’s Washington DC website, AFU hopes this campaign will help introduce UNRWA and the Summer Games to a new demographic of concerned individuals.<\/p><\/div>\n

“This first-time partnership with Groupon is an important opportunity for us to spread the word about the vital work of UNRWA and hopefully help make it a very special summer for the kids of Gaza. We encourage all UNRWA supporters to help us promote this exciting partnership by sharing it with their friends and family,” said AFU Acting Executive Director Abby Smardon.<\/p><\/div>\n

From 24 to 26 May, a button on the side of UNRWA’s homepage will make it easy for people to have their donations to Summer Games doubled through <\/span>AFU’s Groupon Campaign<\/u><\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

American Friends of UNRWA<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

AFU is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides support for the humanitarian work of UNRWA through advocacy, fundraising and education. AFU aims to educate the general American public about the situation of the Palestinian refugees and generate support for UNRWA’s education, health and social service programs in the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. All donations to AFU are tax-deductible.<\/p><\/div>\n
