First Festival on Integrating Music into Curriculum<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

West Bank — The first festival on integrating music integration in the first grade curriculum was organised yesterday in Askar Basic School for Girls, in the north of the West Bank.<\/p><\/div>\n

This project was carried out in close partnership with Sabreen, currently working on spreading music awareness and knowledge among UNRWA schools. It has trained teachers and supervisors in music, to introduce children to music, play, sing and improvise various pieces. Musical concepts and understanding were transmitted to the first graders during the school year 2011\/2011.<\/p><\/div>\n

The festival was attended by more than 85 schoolgirls from schools in the northern West Bank. UNRWA’s area education officer said: “Music has a great effect on developing social skills and an ear for music. Children participating today represent the real future.”<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

This is the first-ever festival of the sort, which helps children acquire new psychological, mental and social skills, and let off some of the pressure of daily life, and express themselves freely. The project encourages kids to be more self-aware and enriches their imagination. During the year, children were introduced to the various forms of music from various countries, which each have different repercussions and rhythms.<\/p><\/div>\n
