UNDP requests USD 49.3 million for early recovery activities in Gaza <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The three-week offensive in Gaza led to extensive destruction of livelihoods and infrastructure, and  significantly deteriorated basic services. According to the Palestinian Authority Ministry of Health figures, 1,326 Palestinians were killed during this period, including an estimated 430 children and 110 women. 5,450 Palestinians were injured, including 1,855 children and 795 women. With 56 percent of the population under 18, children were dangerously exposed to the fighting around them. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

In this context, and as part of the UN Flash Appeal, UNDP’s efforts are focusing on a targeted set of early recovery activities to ensure that affected populations have immediate access to basic services – water, health and education – and livelihood opportunities. Out of USD 613 million requested in the Flash Appeal, UNDP funding needs total USD 49.3 million for the following programmes:<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

• <\/span>Emergency rubble removal, including unexploded ordnance: USD 26,750,000 <\/a><\/p>\n

• <\/span>Emergency response to meet priority educational infrastructure needs: USD 10,927,140<\/a><\/p>\n

• <\/span>Emergency response to restart the agricultural sector: USD 9,618,016<\/a><\/p>\n

• <\/span>Reconstruction and rehabilitation of water reservoirs: USD 850,000<\/a><\/p>\n

• <\/span>Emergency support to health, protection and prevention of gender based violence: USD 200,000<\/a><\/p>\n

• <\/span>Early recovery coordination: USD 980,000<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n
