ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA<\/p><\/div>\n

1.\t<\/span>The agenda was adopted<\/u>.<\/p><\/div>\n

PROJECT BY THE SOLIDARITY COMMITTEE OF THE GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC TO PUBLISH A 1984 PALESTINE CALENDAR, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE COMMITTEE ON THE EXERCISE OF THE INALIENABLE RIGHTS OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

2. \t<\/span>Mr. BUSCH<\/u> (German Democratic Republic) expressed satisfaction at the successful completion of the International Conference on the Question of Palestine.  As further proof of his country's solidarity with the Palestinian people, the Solidarity Committee of the German Democratic Republic was prepared to publish a 1984 Palestine calendar in collaboration with the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.  The form of the calendar would correspond to that of the 1982 calendar, which had also been published jointly by the two Committees.  The pictorial design would include prints of town and country scenes in the occupied Palestinian territories.  Delivery of the calendar was scheduled for November 1983, and he therefore hoped that the Committee could adopt his Government's proposal at the current meeting and include the project in its 1984 plan of action.<\/p><\/div>\n

3.\t<\/span>Mr. TERZI<\/u> (Observer, Palestine Liberation Organization) welcomed the proposal made by the German Democratic Republic.  The 1982 Palestine calendar had been of very high quality, and he hoped that the Committee would fully support the proposal.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

4.\t<\/span>Mr. ROA-KOURI<\/u> (Cuba) supported the statement made by the observer for the PLO and said that the calendar should be widely circulated, since the tasks of the Committee included giving publicity to the living conditions of the Palestinian people.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

5.\t<\/span>Mr. LOGOGLU<\/u> (Turkey) said that the project was a commendable idea.  However, it was not clear what the Committee was being asked to do with regard to the calendar.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

6.\t<\/span>The CHAIRMAN<\/u> said that, in 1982, the Committee was being asked to provide moral support.  Its collaboration with the Solidarity Committee would have no financial implications.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

7.\t<\/span>Mr. TERZI<\/u> (Observer, Palestine Liberation Organization) said it was his understanding that the Organization would also distribute copies of the calendar through its offices around the world.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

8.\t<\/span>The CHAIRMAN<\/u> recalled that the 1982 calendar had been given world-wide distribution through United Nations information centres.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

9.\t<\/span>Mrs. KRACHT<\/u> (Secretary of the Committee) said that the financial implications of distributing the Calendar would have to be studied.  She recalled that, in response to a request from the Committee, the Department of Public Information had allocated funds in 1982 to assist in the work of distributing the calendar.<\/p><\/div>\n

10.\t<\/span>The CHAIRMAN<\/u> said that, if there was no objection, he would take it that the Committee accepted the offer of the Solidarity Committee of the German Democratic Republic.<\/p><\/div>\n

11.\t<\/span>It was so decided<\/u>.<\/p><\/div>\n

OTHER MATTERS<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

12.\t<\/span>Mr. TERZI<\/u> (Observer, Palestine Liberation Organization) pointed out that the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People would be held on 29 November.  During a recent visit to Vienna, he had learned that the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna had not received any information concerning arrangements for observance of the International Day.  It was his understanding that all United Nations offices would be planning events to mark the Day.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

13.\t<\/span>Mrs. KRACHT<\/u> (Secretary of the Committee) said that the Chairman of the Committee would shortly be asked to sign a letter to the Secretary-General requesting that the Director-General of the United Nations Office in Vienna should be appraised of events to be held on 29 November.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

14.\t<\/span>Mr. TERZI<\/u> (Observer, Palestine Liberation Organization) inquired whether the Committee would follow up promptly the Declaration and Programme of Action adopted at the International Conference in Geneva.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

15.\t<\/span>The CHAIRMAN<\/u> said that, after the return of the Secretary-General of the Conference to Headquarters, the Preparatory Committee would consider the results of the Conference.  The Committee would then meet to consider ways and means of following up the Declaration and Programme of Action.<\/p><\/div>\n

16.\t<\/span>Mr. TERZI<\/u> (Observer, Palestine Liberation Organization) asked when copies of the Declaration and Programme of Action would be available at Headquarters.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

17.\t<\/span>Mrs. KRACHT<\/u> (Secretary of the Committee) said she would inform the Conference secretariat that the members of the Committee wished to have the Conference documents published as soon as possible.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

18.\t<\/span>Mr. GOLOB<\/u> (Yugoslavia) said that he agreed with the procedure suggested by the Chairman for the follow-up to the Conference.  In view of the forthcoming opening of the General Assembly session, prompt action was needed in that connection.<\/p><\/div>\n

19.\t<\/span>The CHAIRMAN<\/u> said that the next meeting of the Committee would be held before the opening of the general debate in the General Assembly, so that all members would be able to attend.<\/p><\/div>\n
