Introduction<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

1.\t<\/span>The eleventh special session of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Governing Council\/Global Ministerial Environment Forum was held at the Bali International Convention Centre in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia, from 24 to 26 February 2010. It was convened in pursuance of section I of Governing Council decision 25\/17 of 20 February 2009 and paragraph 5 of General Assembly resolution 40\/243 of 18 December 1985, on the pattern of conferences, and in accordance with rules 5 and 6 of the rules of procedure of the Governing Council. <\/p><\/div>\n

SS.XI\/6: Follow-up report on the environmental situation in the Gaza Strip<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

The Governing Council, <\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Recalling<\/i> decision GCSS.VII\/7 of 15 February 2002, on the environmental situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, and decision 25\/12 of 20 February 2009, on the environmental situation in the Gaza Strip,<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Having considered<\/i><\/span> the report of the Executive Director on the environmental situation in the Gaza Strip,<\/span>1<\/sup><\/span>\t<\/span><\/sup><\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.\t<\/span>Requests<\/i> the Executive Director to take the necessary measures, within the organization’s mandate and available resources and in coordination with the relevant United Nations country team, to assist in the implementation of the recommendations contained in the report entitled “Environmental Assessment of the Gaza Strip following the escalation of hostilities in December 2008 – January 2009”;<\/p><\/div>\n

2.\t<\/span>Invites <\/i>Governments, United Nations system entities and international financial institutions to provide financial, technical and logistical support and assistance to ensure the success of the further work of the United Nations Environment Programme in the Gaza Strip.<\/p><\/div>\n
