Identical letters dated 14 July 2005 from the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

  <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  I write to inform you of a fatal terrorist attack that was committed against Israeli civilians this evening (local time). <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  Terrorists affiliated with the Hamas and Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade terrorist organizations launched four Qassam rockets into Israel. The rockets landed in the Israeli Moshav (village) of Nativ Ha’asara, one of which directly struck a home, killing a 22-year-old woman. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  This attack, which comes on the heels of the Netanya shopping mall bombing, brings the total number of Israelis murdered at the hands of terrorists in the last two days alone to six. The Palestinian Authority’s inability or unwillingness to crack down on the terrorist infrastructure that exists within its society is becoming increasingly intolerable. Terrorist activity is on the increase and compromises recent positive developments towards peace. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  Israel remains determined to advance the peace process. In the absence of immediate, visible and effective steps by the Palestinian Authority to prevent terrorism, however, no real progress can be expected. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  Israel calls upon the Palestinian Authority to take urgent and decisive measures to prevent any and all Palestinian terrorism. Israel further urges the international community to clearly and publicly voice its outrage at and intolerance of terrorism. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  I should be grateful if you would arrange to have the text of this letter circulated as a document of the General Assembly, under agenda items 36 and 148, and of the Security Council. <\/p><\/div>\n
