LETTER DATED 4 JANUARY 1975 FROM THE CHARGE D'AFFAIRES, A.I.,<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

OF THE PERMANENT MISSION OF LEBANON TO THE UNITED NATIONS<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

ADDRESSED TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Referring to our letter No. 317\/lb\/431  (S\/11572), and on instructions  from my Government, I <\/i>have the honour to bring to your attention the following:<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Since 12 December 1974, Israel has committed the acts of aggression listed below:<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.\t<\/span>Israeli warplanes penetrated Lebanese air space and crossed the sound barrier causing sonic booms 44 <\/i>times.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

2.\t<\/span>Israeli warships intruded into Lebanese territorial waters 10 times.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

3.\t<\/span>Israeli guns shelled positions inside Lebanon 347 times.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

4.\t<\/span>Israeli machine guns were  fired across the  frontier l4 times.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

5.\t<\/span>Israeli soldiers crossed the frontiers on eight  occasions.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

As a result of these criminal acts, Lebanon suffered the  following casualties:<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.\t<\/span>Four civilians  and one  soldier were killed.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

2.\t<\/span>Twelve  civilians  and one soldier were wounded.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

3.\t<\/span>Nine  civilians were kidnapped.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Material damages included:<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.\t<\/span>Seventeen houses  destroyed.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

2.\t<\/span>One house  severely damaged.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

3.\t<\/span>A part  of the tobacco crop destroyed.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

4.\t<\/span>One tractor hit.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

5.\t<\/span>Seven motor vehicles damaged.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

6.\t<\/span>One motor vehicle completely destroyed.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>These unprovoked and murderous attacks on the life and property of innocent persons aim to intimidate the Lebanese people, and sustain a situation of lawlessness and terror.  They constitute a flagrant encroachment an Lebanon's sovereignty and a violation of the Lebanese\/Israeli Armistice Agreement.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Israeli criminal aggression against Lebanon exacerbates Middle East tensions and undermines the efforts to reach a peaceful settlement in the area. Furthermore, they indicate Israel's disregard of Security Council warnings  against the repetiti«n of such acts which endanger international peace and security.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Lebanese Government strongly protests Israel's unwarranted aggression against Lebanon and reserves the right to call a meeting of the Security Council at an appropriate time, should it deem that necessary.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I have the honour to request that this letter be circulated as an official document of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n
