Letter dated 15 August 2001 from the Representatives of Mali and Qatar<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\t\t<\/span>We have the honour to inform you that an urgent meeting of the Follow-up Committee on the Ninth Islamic Summit Conference, followed by an urgent meeting of the Islamic Group, were held today, at the ambassadorial level, at the United Nations, to consider the grave and deteriorating situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including Jerusalem, following Israel’s unwarranted and illegal seizure of the Orient House, its high-handed closure of the Palestinian Authority’s political and security offices, its forceful occupation of several other Palestinian buildings in East Jerusalem, its destruction of a Palestinian police station and other property in Jenin and, among other things, its killing and injuring of Palestinian citizens, including children.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t\t<\/span>These and other actions of Israel, the occupying Power, are severely undermining the Palestinian Authority’s efforts to lend stability to its administration. They also severely threaten the peace process in Palestine and the Middle East region.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t\t<\/span>On behalf of the States members of the Islamic Group, we have the honour to request the convening of an immediate meeting of the Security Council to consider the grave situation.<\/p><\/div>\n
