Draft resolution A\/C.3\/60\/L.19: The situation of and assistance to Palestinian children <\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

1.  The Chairman <\/strong>said that draft resolution A\/C.3\/60\/L.19 contained no programme-budget implications. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

2.  Ms. Rasheed <\/strong>(Observer for Palestine), speaking on behalf of the sponsors, said that her delegation had decided to withdraw the draft resolution in the interest of streamlining the work of the United Nations. The decision had been prompted by the conclusion of negotiations on a draft resolution sponsored by the European Union which had incorporated much of its language and would be adopted by consensus. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

3.3.   The draft resolution had been put forward to address the plight of Palestinian children living under Israeli occupation who had been deprived of their most basic rights, including the right to life and personal security. Children had borne the brunt of Israel’s escalated military attacks against densely populated areas, resulting in the killing of hundreds of Palestinian children in the wake of the second Palestinian uprising against Israel’s occupation and its illegal policies and practices. The draft resolution was meant to send a strong message of solidarity to the Palestinian people and to reflect the deep concern of the international community for the well-being and safety of Palestinian children. <\/p><\/div>\n
