21.\t<\/span>In its resolution <\/span>2002\/3<\/a>, the Commission requested the Secretary-General to transmit the resolution to the Government of Israel and to all other Governments, to disseminate it on the widest possible scale and to make available to the Commission on Human Rights, prior to the convening of its fifty-ninth session, all information pertaining to the implementation of that resolution by the Government of Israel. It also decided to consider the situation in occupied Palestine under the present item as a matter of high priority. The Commission will have before it the report of the Secretary-General (<\/span>E\/CN.4\/2003\/15<\/a>).<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

36.\t<\/span><\/span>In its resolution <\/span>2002\/7<\/a>, the Commission decided to continue the consideration of this question at its fifty-ninth session. <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

Question of the violation of human rights in the occupied Arab territories, including Palestine<\/strong> <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

37.\t<\/span><\/span>In its resolution <\/span>1993\/2 A<\/a>, the Commission decided to appoint a special rapporteur with the mandate to investigate Israel’s violations of the principles and bases of international law, international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, of 12 August 1949, in the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel since 1967, to receive communications, to hear witnesses and to report to the Commission at its future sessions, until the end of the Israeli occupation of those territories. Following the resignation of Mr. René Felber (Switzerland) in 1995, Mr. Hannu Halinen (Finland) in 1999 and Mr. Giorgio Giacomelli (Italy) in March 2001, Mr. John Dugard (South Africa) was appointed Special Rapporteur in June 2001. <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

38.\t<\/span><\/span>In its resolution <\/span>2002\/8<\/a>, as endorsed by Economic and Social Council decision <\/span>2002\/243<\/a>, the Commission decided: <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

 (a)   To request the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, acting as a monitoring mechanism, to follow up on the implementation of the recommendations contained in the report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (<\/span>E\/CN.4\/2001\/114<\/a>) as well as those in the report of the Human Rights Inquiry Commission established pursuant to Commission resolution S-5\/1 of 19 October 2000 (<\/span>E\/CN.4\/2001\/121<\/a>), and to submit reports thereon to the General Assembly at its fifty-seventh session and to the Commission on Human Rights at its fifty-ninth session. The Commission will have before it the report of the Special Rapporteur (<\/span>E\/CN.4\/2003\/30<\/a> and Add.1);<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

 (b)   To request the Secretary-General to report on the implementation of the resolution by the Government of Israel at its fifty-ninth session and to provide the Commission with all United Nations reports issued between sessions of the Commission that deal with the conditions in which the citizens of the Palestinian and other occupied Arab territories are living under the Israeli occupation. The Commission will have before it the report of the Secretary-General (<\/span>E\/CN.4\/2003\/27<\/a>) and a note by the Secretary-General listing the aforementioned United Nations reports (<\/span>E\/CN.4\/2003\/29<\/a>).<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n
