Summary statement by the Secretary-General on matters of<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

which the Security Council is seized and on the stage reached <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

in their consideration<\/strong> <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

 <\/strong><\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

 <\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.   Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General wishes to submit hereunder the list of items of which the Security Council is currently seized, with references in parentheses to the previous summary statements that have been issued covering consideration of each item. <\/span>1<\/u><\/sup><\/a> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

2.   It will be recalled that, in the interest of economy, the Secretary-General reproduces only once annually the full, up-to-date list of items of which the Security Council is seized. In fulfilment of his responsibility under rule 11, an addendum to the basic list is issued weekly, making reference to those items on which further action has been taken by the Council during the week covered or indicating that there has been no change during that period. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

3.   The last full summary statement (S\/2004\/20) was issued on 14 February 2004. The last weekly addendum (S\/2004\/20\/Add.52) covered developments up to 1 January 2005. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

4.   During the period since the last full summary statement, the Security Council included the following item in the agenda of its 5044th meeting, held on 28 September 2004, and concluded its consideration of the item at the same meeting: <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  “Consideration of the draft report of the Security Council to the General Assembly” (see S\/2004\/20\/Add.39). <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

5.   Also during this period, the Security Council included the following item in the agenda of its 5070th meeting, held on 4 November 2004, and concluded its consideration of the item at the same meeting: <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  “Date of election to fill a vacancy in the International Court of Justice” (see S\/2004\/20\/Add.44). <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

6.   Pursuant to the procedure set out in the note by the President of the Security Council of 29 August 1996 (S\/1996\/704), the Secretary-General, in his summary statement of 14 February 2004 on matters of which the Security Council is seized and on the stage reached in their consideration (S\/2004\/20), informed Member States that, as at 1 January 2004, the Security Council had not considered in formal meetings during the preceding five-year period (1999-2003) the following items (the item numbers correspond to those contained in paragraph 8 of document S\/2004\/20): <\/p><\/div>\n

7.   Subsequently, in accordance with the procedure set out in document S\/1996\/704, Member States notified the Secretary-General of their wish to have items 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 31 and 43 above retained on the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized. In the absence of any further notification by a Member State submitted by 31 March 2004 requesting the retention of an item listed in paragraph 6 above, the remaining items mentioned therein, that is, items 22, 23, 24, 56, 67 and 69, were deleted from the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

8.   Pursuant to the procedure set out in the note by the President of the Security Council of 29 August 1996 (S\/1996\/704), the Secretary-General wishes to inform Member States that as at 1 January 2005 the Security Council had not considered in formal meetings during the preceding five-year period (2000-2004) the following items (the item numbers correspond to the listing contained in paragraph 11 of document S\/2004\/20): <\/p><\/div>\n

9.   In accordance with the procedure set out in document S\/1996\/704, a Member State notified the Secretary-General on 11 November 2004 of its wish to have items 2, 3 and 8 above (“The India-Pakistan question”, “The Hyderabad question” and “The situation in the India\/Pakistan subcontinent”, respectively) retained on the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

10.   In the absence of any notification by a Member State submitted by 15 April 2005 requesting the retention of an item listed in paragraph 8 above (with the exception of items 2, 3 and 8 mentioned in paragraph 9 above), those items will be deleted from the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

11.   As at 8 January 2005, the list of matters of which the Security Council was seized was as follows, bearing in mind paragraphs 8, 9 and 10 above: <\/p><\/div>\n
