AND ON THE STAGE REACHED IN THEIR CONSIDERATION<\/p><\/div>\n

Addendum<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General is submitting the following summary statement.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The list of items of which the Security Council is seized is contained in document S\/18570 of  8 January 1987.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>At its 2768th meeting, held in private on 25 November 1987, the Security Council considered its draft report to the General Assembly covering the period from 16 June 1986 to 15 June 1987.  The Security Council adopted the draft report unanimously.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>At its 2769th meeting, held on 25 November 1987, the Security Council resumed its consideration of the item, having before it the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengaqement Observer Force (UNDOF) for the period 18 May 1987 to 13 November 1987 (S\/19263).<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The President drew attention to the draft resolution before the Council (S\/19296), which had been prepared in the course of the Council's consultations.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Security Council then voted on the draft resolution (S\/19296) , and adopted it unanimously as resolution 603 (1987).<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>Resolution 603 (1987) reads as follows:<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/i>The Security Council<\/u>,<\/i>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/i>Having considered<\/u> the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (S\/19263),\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Decides<\/u><\/i>:\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(a)\t<\/span>To call upon the parties concerned to implement immediately Security Council resolution 338 (1973) of 22 October 1973;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(b)\t<\/span>To renew the mandate of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another period of six months, that is, until 31 May 1988;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(c)\t<\/span>To request the Secretary-General to submit, at the end of this period, a report on the developments in the situation and the measures taken to implement Security Council resolution 338 (1973).\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n

\t<\/span>Following the voting, the President of the Security Council stated that in connection with the resolution just adopted on the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Forest he had been authorized to make the following complementary statement (<\/span>S\/19301<\/a>) on behalf of the Security Council:<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"As is known, the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (<\/span>S\/19263<\/a>) states, in paragraph 24: 'Despite the present quiet in the Israel-Syria sector, the situation in the Middle East as a whole continues to be potentially dangerous and is likely to remain so, unless and until a comprehensive settlement covering all aspects of the Middle East problem can be reached.'  That statement of the Secretacy-General reflects the view of the Security Council."<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
