The Governing Council,<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Recalling<\/u> its decisions on the environmental situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including decision 20\/2 of February 1999,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Reaffirming<\/u> the General Assembly resolution 55\/209 of 22 December 2000 on the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem over their natural resources,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Gravely concerned<\/u> by the recent alarming reports on the violations of the environment in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>Requests<\/u> the Executive Director to assess the environmental repercussions of the above mentioned recent violations;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>2.\t<\/span>Requests<\/u> the Executive Director to assist the Palestinian Authority in its efforts to address the urgent environmental challenges;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>3.\t<\/span>Also requests<\/u> the Executive Director to prepare the comprehensive report requested in decision 20\/2 on the environmental situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories including the findings of the above mentioned assessment and present the report to the Committee of Permanent Representatives as soon as possible and through it to the Governing Council at its seventh special session to be held in 2002.<\/p><\/div>\n
