Summary statement by the Secretary-General on matters of
\nwhich the Security Council is seized and on the stage reached
\nin their consideration<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Addendum<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General is submitting the following summary statement. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  The list of items of which the Security Council is seized is contained in documents S\/2002\/30 of 15 March 2002, S\/2002\/30\/Add.1 of 22 March 2002, S\/2002\/30\/Add.2 of 25 March 2002, S\/2002\/30\/Add.3 of 26 March 2002, S\/2002\/30\/Add.5 of 1 April 2002, S\/2002\/30\/Add.13 of 9 April 2002, S\/2002\/30\/Add.23 of 21 June 2002, S\/2002\/30\/Add.27 of 19 July 2002 and S\/2002\/30\/Add.36 of 20 September 2002.<\/p><\/div>\n

  During the week ending 21 September 2002, the Security Council took action on the following items:<\/p><\/div>\n

   The situation in Burundi <\/strong>(see<\/i> S\/25070\/Add.43 and 46; S\/1994\/20\/Add.29, 33, 41 and 50; S\/1995\/40\/Add.4, 9, 12 and 34; S\/1996\/15 and Add.4, 9, 16, 19, 29, 30 and 34; S\/1997\/40\/Add.21; S\/1999\/25\/Add.44; S\/2000\/40\/Add.2 and 38; S\/2001\/15\/Add.9, 11, 26, 38, 39 and 44-46; and S\/2002\/30\/Add.5)<\/p><\/div>\n

  The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 4609th (private) meeting, held on 17 September 2002 in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  At the close of the meeting, in accordance with rule 55 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the following communiqué was issued through the Secretary-General in place of a verbatim record:<\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

    “At its 4609th meeting, held in private on 17 September 2002, the Security Council considered the item entitled ‘The situation in Burundi’. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

    “The President, with the consent of the Council, invited His Excellency Mr. Térence Sinunguruza, Minister for External Relations and Cooperation of Burundi, to participate in the discussion in accordance with rule 37 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

    “The Minister for External Relations and Cooperation of Burundi and the members of the Council had a constructive discussion.”<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Meeting of the Security Council with the troop-contributing countries to the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone pursuant to resolution 1353 (2001), annex II, sections A and B<\/strong> (see<\/i> S\/2001\/15\/Add.37; and S\/2002\/30\/Add.11; see also<\/i> S\/1995\/40\/Add.47; S\/1996\/15\/Add.6, 11 and 48; S\/1997\/40\/Add.21, 27, 31, 40 and 45; S\/1998\/44\/Add.8, 11, 15, 20, 22, 28 and 50; S\/1999\/25 and Add.1, 9, 18, 22, 32, 41 and 48; S\/2000\/40\/Add.5, 10, 17, 18, 19, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 35, 37 and 50; S\/2001\/15\/Add.4, 13, 26, 38 and 51; and S\/2002\/30\/Add.2, 12, 20 and 27) <\/p><\/div>\n

  The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 4610th (private) meeting, held on 18 September 2002 in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  At the close of the meeting, in accordance with rule 55 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the following communiqué was issued through the Secretary-General in place of a verbatim record:<\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

  “On 18 September 2002, the Security Council, pursuant to resolution 1353 (2001), annex II, sections A and B, held its 4610th meeting in private with the troop-contributing countries to the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL).<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  “The Security Council and the troop-contributing countries heard a briefing under rule 39 of its provisional rules of procedure by Mr. Oluyemi Adeniji, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sierra Leone and Head of the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  “The members of the Council had a constructive exchange of views with representatives of participating troop-contributing countries.”<\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 4611th meeting, held on 19 September 2002 in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.<\/p><\/div>\n

  In accordance with the understanding reached in the Council’s prior consultations, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure to Lakhdar Brahimi, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  In accordance with the understanding reached in the Council’s prior consultations, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure to Terje Roed-Larsen, Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and Personal Representative of the Secretary-General.<\/p><\/div>\n
