Draft resolution on the human rights situation in southern Lebanon and west Bakaa<\/u> (E\/CN.4\/1999\/L.25\/Rev.1) <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

37. Mr. MORJANE<\/u> (Tunisia) introduced the draft resolution and said he hoped that the Commission could adopt it by consensus. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

38. Mr. PELEG<\/u> (Observer for Israel) said he noted that paragraph 2 of the draft resolution called upon Israel to implement Security Council resolution 425 (1978). He wished to point out that his Government accepted that resolution and had communicated to the Secretary-General its readiness to implement it. However, the resolution in question contained interrelated elements, for not only was Israel called upon to withdraw its forces, but the Lebanese Government was called upon to ensure the security of the border between Lebanon and Israel. Only when that condition was met would his Government withdraw its forces, for it did not believe that such a withdrawal should affect the security and well-being of Israeli citizens. <\/p><\/div>\n

39. Mr MOOSE<\/u> (United States of America) requested that the draft resolution be put to the vote. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

40. At the request of the representative of Tunisia, the vote was taken by roll-call<\/u>. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

41. Uruguay, having been drawn by lot by the Chairperson, was called upon to vote first<\/u>: <\/p><\/div>\n
