Note by the Secretary-General<\/strong>**<\/p><\/div>\n

1.\t<\/span>At its substantive session of 2001, the Economic and Social Council took note of the report of the Commission on Human Rights 1<\/u>\/ containing the Commission’s resolution 2001\/10 of 18 April 2001 on the human rights situation of the Lebanese detainees in Israel. In paragraph 5 of resolution 2001\/10, the Commission requested the Secretary-General to bring the resolution to the attention of the Government of Israel and to call upon it 51ÁÔÆæ its provisions, and to report to the Assembly at its fifty-sixth session on the results of his efforts in that regard.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

2.\t<\/span>In view of the requests formulated in paragraph 5 of the resolution, the Secretary-General addressed a note verbale to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Israel on 31 May 2001.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

3.\t<\/span>No reply had been received at the time of the preparation of the present report.<\/p><\/div>\n
