The representative also attended colloquia of major interest and commemorative celebrations. The meetings related to or focused on the issues of human rights, the human genome, racial discrimination, gender, poverty, development cooperation, Palestine, social development, preservation and development of cultural life in Central and Eastern European countries, and the annual DPI\/NGO conference.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">\/&#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>Close cooperation with UNESCO<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>Until 1995 ISSC received an annual subvention, which was partly redistributed among 14 member associations which represented different social science disciplines. The funds were used to support the infrastructure of those associations and the Council as well as different scholarly activities in line with the aims and objectives of UNESCO.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>Since 1996, the funds received from the central administration of UNESCO in Paris and from its field offices (Bangkok, Buenos Aires, Dakar, Port-au-Prince, Tunisia) have been used to support specific projects only. Their selection and approval is preceded by negotiations with funders.
