\t<\/span>Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General is submitting the following summary statement.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\t<\/span>The list of items of which the Security Council is seized is contained in document S\/16880 of  7 January 1985, S\/16880\/Add.4 of 13 February 1985 and S\/16880\/Add.18 of 20 May 1985.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>At its 2581st meeting, held on 21 May 1985, the Security Council resumed its consideration of the item, having before it the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) for the period 17 November 1984 to 13 May 1985 (<\/span>S\/17177<\/a><\/a>).<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The President drew attention to the draft resolution before the Council contained in document S\/17202, which had been prepared in the course of the Council's consultations.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Security Council then voted on the draft resolution (S\/17202), and adopted it unanimously as resolution 563 (1985).<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Resolution 563 (1985) reads as follows: <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>The Security Council<\/u>,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Having considered<\/u> the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (S\/17177),\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Decides<\/u>:\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(a)\t<\/span>To call upon the parties concerned to implement immediately Security Council resolution 338 (1973) of 22 October 1973;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(b)\t<\/span>To renew the mandate of the United Nations Disengagement  Observer Force for another period of six months, that is, until 30 November 1985;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(c)\t<\/span>To request the Secretary-General to submit, at the end of this period, a report on the developments in the situation and the measures taken to implement Security Council resolution 338 (1973).\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Following the voting, the President made the following complementary statement (S\/17206) on behalf of the Security Council regarding the resolution just adopted:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"'As is known, the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (S\/17177) states, in paragraph 26:  'Despite the present quiet in the Israel-Syria sector, the situation in the Middle East as a whole continues to be potentially dangerous and is likely to remain so, unless and until a comprehensive settlement covering all aspects of the Middle East problem can be reached'.  That statement of the Secretary-General reflects the view of the Security Council."\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
