Draft resolution A\/C.5\/57\/L.78<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.  Mr. Kendall<\/strong> (Argentina, Vice-Chairman), reporting on the results of the informal consultations on the draft resolution submitted by Morocco, said that the Committee had been unable to reach a consensus on the text.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

2.  <\/span>Ms. Afifi <\/strong><\/span>(Morocco), introducing the draft resolution entitled “Financing of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon” (A\/C.5\/57\/L.78) on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, said that, on several occasions, the General Assembly had requested that Israel should pay for the damage caused during the incident at Qana on 18 April 1996. However, as stated in section III of the report of the Secretary-General on the budget for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for the period from 1 July 2003 to 30 June 2004 (<\/span>A\/57\/663<\/a>), Israel had failed to respond to a number of letters addressed to it on the matter. The draft resolution therefore stressed once again that Israel should strictly abide by the relevant resolutions of the General Assembly and reimburse the Interim Force.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

3.  The Chairman<\/strong> said that the Committee would take action on the draft resolution at its next formal meeting.<\/p><\/div>\n

The meeting rose at 10.15 a.m<\/i>. <\/p><\/div>\n
