Letter dated 15 September 2003 from the Permanent Representative of Senegal to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

  On instructions from my Government, I am transmitting herewith a copy of the communiqué dated 12 September 2003 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Senegal, reflecting the views of the Senegalese Government on the situation in Palestine (see annex).<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  I should be grateful if you would arrange for this text to be circulated as a document of the General Assembly.<\/p><\/div>\n

Annex to the letter dated 15 September 2003 from the Permanent Representative of Senegal to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General<\/strong> <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Senegal concerning the situation in Palestine<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

    Dakar, 12 September 2003<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  The Government of Senegal expresses its deepest concern about the escalation of violence in the Middle East and the serious threat which it represents for peace, security and the resumption of the process of negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  In this connection, the Government of Senegal urges all the parties involved in the conflict to display restraint and to commit themselves without delay to resuming negotiations in order to find a peaceful, just and lasting settlement of the crisis.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  Senegal, which for over two decades has chaired the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, reaffirms its support for the <\/span>road map<\/a> and again asks the parties to implement it immediately and unconditionally, under the supervision of the Quartet.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  The Government of Senegal warns against any attempt to threaten the physical and moral integrity of President Yasser Arafat or to expel him from Palestine. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  The Government of Senegal urges the international community, the United Nations and its Secretary-General and the regional organizations to continue and intensify their efforts to restore peace in the region.<\/p><\/div>\n
