QUESTION OF PALESTINE<\/p><\/div>\n

Letter dated 8 June 1982 from the Chairman of the Committee<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

People to the Secretary-General<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

As Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, I have the honour to convey to you the Committee's gravest concern regarding Israel's invasion of southern Lebanon.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

This newly created situation, which is a blatant violation of international law, has caused the loss of human life, suffering and endless destruction.  Furthermore, if Israeli forces are not immediately and unconditionally withdrawn, there is the great risk of the conflict spreading to the whole region and thus threatening international peace and security.<\/p><\/div>\n

On behalf of the Committee, I appeal to you to request that decisive steps be taken forthwith by the Security Council to ensure that this explosive situation is brought to an immediate end.<\/p><\/div>\n

I should be grateful if you would kindly have the text of this letter circulated as a document of the General Assembly, under item 31 of the preliminary list, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n
