  The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 5297th meeting, held on 31 October 2005 in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations, having before it a letter dated 20 October 2005 from the Secretary-General addressed to the President of the Security Council (S\/2005\/662). <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  The President, with the consent of the Council, invited the representatives of Lebanon and the Syrian Arab Republic, at their request, to participate in the consideration of the item without the right to vote. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  The President drew attention to a draft resolution (S\/2005\/684) submitted by France, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  The Security Council proceeded to vote on draft resolution S\/2005\/684, and adopted it unanimously as resolution 1636 (2005) (for the text, see S\/RES\/1636 (2005); to be issued in Official Records of the Security Council, Resolutions and Decisions of the Security Council, 1 August 2005-31 July 2006 <\/i>).<\/p><\/div>\n
