  Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General is submitting the following summary statement. <\/p><\/div>\n

  The list of items of which the Security Council is seized is contained in document S\/2006\/10 of 1 March 2006. <\/p><\/div>\n

  The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 5361st and 5365th meetings, held on 31 January and 3 February 2006, respectively, in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  At the 5361st meeting, in accordance with the understanding reached in the Council’s prior consultations, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure to Angela Kane, Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  At the 5365th meeting, the President stated that, following consultations of the Council, he had been authorized to make a statement on behalf of the Council and read out the text of that statement (for the text, see S\/PRST\/2006\/6; to be issued in Official Records of the Security Council, Resolutions and Decisions of the Security Council, 1 August 2005-31 July 2006 <\/i>).<\/p><\/div>\n

  The President drew attention to a draft resolution (S\/2006\/57) submitted by Denmark, France, Greece, Slovakia, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  The Security Council proceeded to vote on draft resolution S\/2006\/57, and adopted it unanimously as resolution 1655 (2006) (for the text, see S\/RES\/1655 (2006); to be issued in Official Records of the Security Council, Resolutions and Decisions of the Security Council, 1 August 2005-31 July 2006 <\/i>).<\/p><\/div>\n
